Tilt Up Construction vs Precast Concrete Construction
Tilt Up Construction is the process of building forms and casting
concrete walls directly at the job site. The large concrete panels are
then tilted up into position around the building's foundation.
Precast Concrete Construction is similar to tilt up construction
except that the concrete is precast in reusable forms and cured in a
controlled environment off site. The concrete panels then have to be
transported to the job site. These panels are then assembled in the
same manner as tilt up construction.
The biggest advantage to using tilt up construction versus precast
concrete construction is that the size of the tilt up panel is only
limited to the size of the building and the strength of the tilt up
panels. Precast concrete construction has a drawback in that the size
of the panel is much smaller causing less flexibility on the design of
the building.
